A New Beginning

Hey there, fellow adventurers of creativity and self-discovery! I am beyond thrilled to embark on this exhilarating new journey with you all in the realm of improv and theater. Buckle up, because we're about to create something truly extraordinary together!

The Playful Stage is the culmination of a lifetime of experiences, rooted in my deep love for theatre and the joy I've found as an improv instructor. This journey has been more than just a passion; it's been a calling. Seeing how I can play a role in people's journeys of self-discovery, witnessing how improv and theatre changes people’s lives, has brought immense fulfillment to my life. It's an honor to create an inclusive space where individuals like you can unleash their creativity, build confidence, and find their own calling. Together, we'll dive into a world of endless possibilities, laughter, and growth.

Creating a space that is inclusive and celebratory of people from all walks of life is not just a lofty goal for me, it's an essential part of my vision. As a gay Black and Mexican man who lives with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, it's deeply important to me to ensure that everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated within our creative environment. Inclusivity is not just a buzzword I’m using; it's an action that we take every day to honor the beautiful diversity of our community.

I am thrilled to collaborate with some incredible minds, including the amazing Kendra Nicholson, who I trained under to become an Improv Instructor. Her experience as an improviser, an instructor, and an author, as well as the perspective she brings from her life experiences, are invaluable to helping make this vision a reality.

And even more amazing collaborations are in store! Together, we will build a vibrant and supportive community that ignites joy and empowers personal growth.

I have had the support of some amazing friends and family over the last few months as I’ve been in a place of transition with my career. I’ve had some days where my depression and anxiety had me convinced I would never succeed at launching something of my own, but those thoughts were combatted by the voices of the people who love and care about me, most of whom I met through doing improv.

They say it takes a village, which is 100% true. But it also takes funds, which is a frank reality. I have to admit, I initially hesitated about launching a Kickstarter for this project. However, as I reflect on the vision I have for The Playful Stage, I realize that to see this dream come to life, I need to rely on the support of the very community I aim to nurture. Kickstarter allows us to come together, as a team, to bring this vision into reality and create a space where creativity thrives.

Equally important to me is ensuring that everyone involved in working with The Playful Stage, from instructors to facilitators and performers, is fairly compensated for their time, talents, and dedication. It's a commitment that stems from my own journey and experiences with improv schools and theatre. Together, we will create an environment where everyone thrives and receives the recognition they deserve.
