Our Mission and Values
Our Mission
At The Playful Stage, we use improv, acting, and play to unlock creativity, encourage personal growth, and build meaningful connections.
We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, identities, ages, and experience levels into a learning community where curiosity, self-expression, and collaboration can thrive.
The Playful Stage is a Black/Mexican/Queer Owned Small Business.
Play Belongs to Everyone
Play has no age limit, and creativity is not reserved for experienced performers. We meet students where they are, invite bold exploration, and make room for diverse voices and perspectives.
Scene Boundaries
No scene is more important than the people performing it. Students may set limits, decline physical contact, pause a scene, or step out without being pressured to explain or “power through.”
Our instructors establish clear expectations around consent, communication, and physical interaction.
Connection Requires Care
We encourage vulnerability without demanding it. We listen, support one another, and work to create an environment where people feel seen, heard, valued, and able to take creative risks.
Identity Is Respected
We invite and honor personal pronouns. We do not portray other people’s race or ethnicity as costumes, and marginalized communities are never treated as punchlines or impersonations. Bold characters do not require harmful stereotypes
Impact Matters
Because improvisation is unscripted, harmful moments can occur even without harmful intent. When they do, we pause, listen, and respond with care, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
Mistakes can become opportunities for reflection, growth, and repair.
Creative Work Has Value
We recognize the time, skill, preparation, and care contributed by our instructors, staff, and performers. We are committed to supporting our team and compensating creative labor fairly.
